Welcome to 2014. Are we there yet?

Jan 23, 2014

And another year is upon us. Coming up – a brand new album from The Valery Trails, a mini-album from Hailer, and at some point, new material from WE ALL WANT TO and Drawn From Bees.

The new album from The Valery Trails is ‘Buffalo Speedway’, and it’s due for release on the 29th April. The first single is ‘Starsong’ which you can hear here and see here – the track has already been featured in the US by The Big Takeover and The Joy of Violent Movement, and we expect it to get more attention once it’s officially released. ‘Buffalo Speedway’ was recorded in Brisbane by Darek Mudge and produced by Tim Steward (Screamfeeder, WE ALL WANT TO) and was mixed in Brooklyn by Bryce Goggin (Pavement, Sebadoh, Spacehog). The album was also mastered for digital and vinyl in Brooklyn by Joe Lambert (Local Natives, Animal Collective, Deerhunter and many more).

Meanwhile, and still on things USA, the Hailer boys have returned from a  three-month, 44-date US tour that saw them cover the whole East Coast – Florida to Massachusetts, east to Illinois, south to Texas and all points in between. The tour won them a ton of new fans, and garnered them some great press, but it was the shows that really connected. In several places they were immediately offered more, larger gigs, and have been invited back by every venue they played. They also found time to record 7 songs with producer Louie Lino (Nada Surf, Matt Pond PA) at his studio in Austin. That release – tentatively titled ‘El Cosmico’ – should be out by May, and the band will play some local shows. There’s talk of going back to the US later in 2014.

Locally, WE ALL WANT TO are writing a stack of new songs for album #3, but at this stage there are no dates set for recording. The new material will be on show over the next few months as the band will play a series of free or low-price shows around SE Queensland, to get the new songs match-fit. Keep an eye on their website for dates…

And Drawn From Bees have also been playing more often, and have a number of new songs in various stages of production. No word on any release dates but we’ll try to give you plenty of notice. We caught the new line-up at their Christmas show and it was spectacular – they have really lifted the bar (again) on their live set. Expect a big 2014 from them after a relatively quiet year last year.
